Care at Quilt
Ear acupuncture
Ear acupuncture places a few small needles at set points on each ear, in a visit that is shorter and lighter than a full one. You sit up in a chair and stay dressed. Some people choose it on a busy day, some on days when lying back does not appeal.
Who usually comes
People with an hour less to give
People who would rather sit up than recline
People who want to try a lighter visit first

A visit, in order
What happens, step by step
- 01
Step 1: We talk first
A few quick questions about your day and anything you take.
- 02
Step 2: You sit
A chair, a blanket if you like, your hair moved back from your ears.
- 03
Step 3: A few small needles
Your acupuncturist places them at points on each ear. You may feel a pinch or a warm ache.
- 04
Step 4: You rest
About twenty to thirty minutes, as long as you like within the room hour.
- 05
Step 5: They come out
Your acupuncturist removes them and tells you what to try before your next visit.
Good to know
Before and after
What you may feel afterward
A little soreness at the ear for a day, a quiet, sleepy feeling. Sleeping on that side may be uncomfortable for a night.
Tell us first
Tell your acupuncturist before the first needle if you are or might be pregnant, take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, have a pacemaker or other implanted device, have had lymph nodes removed, or are afraid of needles.
How many visits people plan for
Your acupuncturist suggests a plan, for example a short visit once a week for a while. It is a suggestion, not a promise, and results vary.
What it does not do
Ear acupuncture does not replace medical care, and it is not a substitute for therapy or for the medicines your prescriber gave you. If you feel unsafe or are thinking of hurting yourself, call or text 988, or call 911.
