Ear seeds, for between visits

Ear seeds are tiny seeds, usually from a plant called vaccaria, taped to a point on your ear with a small adhesive dot. There is no needle. You press the seed gently a few times a day, and it stays on for several days.

Who usually asks for them

People who want something to do between visits, people who would rather skip needles, and people who like a small, quiet habit.

What it is like

Your acupuncturist cleans the ear, places the seeds and shows you where and how firmly to press. A seed may feel like a small bump, and pressing it may feel tender or warm.

What you may feel afterward

A little tenderness, a mark from the tape or itching at the spot. Take the seeds off if the skin looks red or sore.

Tell us first

Tell us if you are or might be pregnant, have sensitive skin, are allergic to tape, or have a bleeding disorder. Your acupuncturist may skip some points.

What it does not do

Ear seeds do not replace your doctor's care or your medicines, and results vary. If something feels wrong, call your doctor or 911.

Curious about seeds?

Ask for them at the desk, or add them to a recliner visit.
